The brief was to design a flexible photography studio, including commercial kitchen within an existing open warehouse space.
The kitchen module was designed to redefine the spatial flow of the main studio, its position creates a new circulation pattern, with a smaller back of house kitchen behind forming a more intimate gathering area for day to day use. The ability to open and close the main kitchen allows the flexibility of the studio space to be maintained, as it can be opened as a functioning kitchen or closed into a minimal plywood box as a backdrop for events.
Conceptually, it was vital to achieve the minimal closed diagram of the original schematic design and by using low tech solutions. The concept of ‘open’ and ‘close’ became integral to the design outcome.
